Think I got lucky today...Kerr sling.

Hey guys and girl,

Got lucky at the local show today. Was totin' an '03 for sale and stopped to talk to a parts dealer. He asked if I had any parts to sell, said no, just the rifle.

He then told me he had an original Kerr sling for sale. Not on his table. Said it was original and forty bucks. I didn't say anything, figured it was a repro. Wrong.......

Took a good look and the hardware was all darkened brass. Not black but a park or park colored paint. Info I learned here helped me decide. Short piece looked to be sixteen inches and the long one was very long as measured against the swivels on my '03. Figured it was fifty inches. Slightly soiled and no frays or tears, nice khaki color. Two Andy Jackson's came out of my pocket pretty fast.

My daughter helped me sling up. We both figured how to pass the clips through the swivels at the same moment. Real kick.

Any experts have a guess as to period of manufacture of this sling? I'm thinkin' post WWI ? No stamps on the webbing.

By the way, picked up and inspected an Eddystone. All nice blue. Think the barrel was arsenal original. Barrel was dated 9-18 with "E" and bomb. Serial was one million maybe two hundred something. $850.00, very nice rifle.

congrats sir on picking up both,ya done good. They SHINE. I just can't come up with anymore new excuses, when she asks, "how many bolt action & semi-auto .30-06's do we really need?( 1903's, 1917's, M1's)".

But I have found it helps to pick up several nice pieces of Fenton opalesent art glass for her before a planned purchase.She has around 500 pieces, far more than our puny firearms collection.

Hey Gimp,

Yea it's ole Military junk. That's what we like. Picked up the rifle two shows ago. It's an early Remington with it's original barrel. All blue. Guess Augusta or San Antonio arsenal decided to put that nice Winchester stock on it just to get somebody to shoot it. Perfect bore. You can see more photos of the rifle if you go back a few pages on this forum.

Soon as the heat leaves us the rifle and sling will go with me to the range. Probably in the fall. Bet it shoots good.

The Kerr sling.....if I were a serious hunter or competitive shooter it would be my first choice. As far as form and function go think it is an engineering work of art.

Gimp ya' know ya' could try a different tack. The rifles can feed, protect the family and provide fun. Ya' can only eat the meat off the glass that the rifles can provide.
