Small G on the left, large G on right.

Thank you for your quick reply. I realy appreciate the information. What I am really interested in what is the difference in measurements between large and small. I understand due to remaking of the stamping die there will be a very small variance in size.
While there may be a slight variance in the dimensions of each variation, there is not enough that you can't tell the small G from the large G without having to measure them. I have found the appearance and size of each variation to be virtually constant throughout their use.
A collector with years more experience than I explained, the small G width is less than half the distance between the barrel lugs, while the large G is more than half. After seeing a few they are easily recognized, but in the beginning this simple rule helped me.
