    Fore-end for CNo4Mk1*

I need a fore-end to restore a sporterized 1950 CNo4Mk1*. Were fore-ends of that vintage numbered at the arsenal? I'm not planning on renumbering one, but I'm trying to figure out what the odds are of finding a lightly used Canadianicon Arsenals-marked fore-end that is not numbered, or of finding a dark walnut Longbranch-marked fore-end that is not numbered. On what part of the fore-end were the CA and LB arsenal marks placed? I need to know what to look for on any that may turn up. Thanks.

My '50 Long branch is wearing the CA marked wood and the forestock is not numbered.
Look for marks on the forestock, just aft of the nosecap/ferrule.

"...numbered at the arsenal..." Nope. Other than inspector's and acceptance marks. Found on the buttsocket, receiver or butt.
Go here for lots of good info with good pictures. Part One - General History
Gunparts is listing new, hardwood, forestocks at $37.25. Marstar, up here, shows 'em as being 'in stock', but to call for a price. No mention of what wood. Marstar Canada: Lee Enfield No. 4 mk. I Parts & Accessories
