    Hi Sturmsoldaten,

I can't say for all the rifles you listed, but I can say that for a Lee Enfield, it is linseed oilicon that goes on the wood. I can also say that shellac is something the Russianicon used on their rifles (Mosin Nagant, SKS, SVT); I doubt it would have been used on the other rifles you listed.

As far as metal finish, for the No4Mk1, I have seen some blued and some finished with "Suncorite" if I remember correctly, altough I'm not sure. You could post in the "Enfield Knowledge Libraryicon" section of this forum or do a quick search, this topic may have been discussed. When I do my refurbs, I usually don't refinish the receiver and barrel (although I have reblued some bits and pieces at times; handguard retaining bands for example).

You have great taste in firearms

    Lou
