M2 history

I acquired Springfield M2 SN 6669 at a show last January. It has a 6-37 dated barrel and is in a 1922M1 "Issue" stock (that some goober sanded a loooong time ago). Any information on this rifle and the M2s from this timeframe in general appreciated. I have Campbell, Brophy, Poyer and other books. Looking for the additional expertise and experience shared by members here. Much appreciated!

PS: Anyone have a spare M2 stock?

Herschel is the resident expert on Model 1922s.

Looks like you got a nice one. They are nice to have when you don't want to punish yourself at the range with 30-06 ammo (cheaper too). Now all you have to do is spend time looking through misc boxes of clips at gun shows to find some. It will say M2 on it. The going rate is about $75 if the seller knows what it is.

M2 Rifle #6669 appears to have the original finish. From my experience I would estimate that less than 5% of the M2 Rifles escaped refinishing. Remove the bolt and look at the round channel the bolt moves in. If it is in the white, the finish is likely original. If the inside of this channel is blued/parkerized, the rifle has been refinished. M2 Rifle stocks show up from time to time on the internet auctions.

Jeff L, I believe your price info on the M2 Rifle magazine is a little out of date. I buy all I can find @ $75 each. I can get $100 for them at gun shows and they bring that much or more on the internet auctions, assuming the magazine functions and is not pitted.

Arisaka99, You are indeed fortunate to have an orginal finish M2. I would be a buyer if you want to sell it. I have an original finish M2, actually have two in my collection but yours appears to be better.
