    Question on Inland manufacture dates??

My original 550K M1A1icon, has an 8-43 Inland barrel, I am getting a beauty of an Inland 700K range, M1 with SG sub receiver, [all early features, but not I cut], the barrel date is 4-43???
Will take pics next week, but I was wondering if any body else has seen these discrepencies? Both look original...Thankyou, Andy

Brian, the 500K barrel date is 4 months later than the 700K barrel date, Im thinking the SG contract may have been involved, but youd think the 500K would be earlier than the 700K?

Hey Andy, Aren't you a member of the Carbine Club? Try reading the newsletters. This has recently been covered in detail. If you're not a member, you should be. You ask enough questions.

No need to be 'sorry' Andrew. The CSPicon is here for you to ask questions.

If someone doesn't feel like answering a question it is their prerogative, but nobody should be chastised in public for asking a legitimate question.

    Newscotlander:
Your comments and attitude were WAY out of line.

The Saginaw Steering Gear subcontract receivers were numbered beginning with 700000 through 850000 in the first block and were made around the same time as the Inland-made receivers in the 260000 through 999999 range. So there were two serial number ranges being assembled concurently -- that's why a 700k SG-marked receiver can have an earlier barrel date than a 550k Inland-made receiver.

The article referred to earlier is in the the March 2008 Carbine Club Newsletter #346, if you have it.

You missed it! A very informative article on Inlands 1st serial number block by Chris Albright. If he was on this board he would be very dissappointed in any Carbine Club member that didn`t read his article. Cudos to Mr. Albright !!
