    No 4T?

Have located a No 4T at a very reputable local Dealer. All metal is excellent. All numbers are matching. Bore is good. Scope mount pads are in place. Marked on the LH receiver wrist "T" and "R" and the usual BSA code. BUT..... All wood has been replaced with a nice Walnut stock set including the cheek rest appendage. The Rifle looks very good. Asking price is $1K USD which seems high to me but then again I have not seen any of these for sale lately. I will be most appreciative if the more knowledgeable amongst us will please comment and offer their opinions and guidance.

    shottist,
any chance the gun store proprietor would let you take some digital pix of the rifle? It would then be a lot easier to pass comment on it....

I am sure he wouldn't mind but, when I found it I had no Camera available and since he's 65 miles away it will be a while before I'm back there.

    Shottist,

I'm in South Florida and have seen un-scoped No.4 Mark 1(T) rifles sell for as little as $500 in the last three years at local gun shows. Century Arms was selling them within the last 12 months and may still have them - I believe they were selling around the $700 mark - check their web site.

Of course I'm assuming its without scope in which case, depending on condition it may be a little high. If it has a proper scope, tell me where it is and I'll buy it at that price

I purchased a T with all the appropriate markings (including the pencilled serial numbers on the inside of the handguards and on the buttstock wrist) last year for $850 at a gun show. Many of the Holland & Holland markings that add to the value of the gun are on the furniture so my guess is that having all new furniture would reduce the value considerably.

Thanks for the replies. I am forced to agree with you. For the price being asked a lot more character should be present. Pass.
