No 4 MKI vs No 4 MKII

I picked up a really nice No4 MKI at a sale in Denver last week and I've been trying to sort out exactly what I've got.
It was a whim... but it was sooo pretty, I couldn't walk away!

It appears it's factory sporter that has been FTR'd but the front sights are the mil sights without the sight protector, short forarm, no upper handguard and rear 300/600 peeps.

It appears that the barrel may have been shortened a bit as the bayonet lugs are only 3/8" from the bbl crown.

I'd like to bring it back to the No4 MKLicon configuration and I've seen an ebay ad for a complete new MKll stock set.

Question: Are the MKLicon and the MKll forearms sets the same? I've got ~28" from the back of the forearm to the front edge of the front sight band.

I shoot in NRA Highpower compitition (service rifle, AR15) but once in awhile, they have a vintage match and I'd like to compete there too.

    Thanks,

    Jimbo

The exterior dimensions are the same, the difference on the Mk 1 vs Mk 2 is the inside, at the rear of the stock. The Mk 2 is split, to make room for the "hung trigger" from the receiver. That is the simplest way to check. They can be modified to work in a Mk1. The barrel can be swapped out by a competent 'smith.

    Jimbo,

It's much easier to get the right forarm rather than trying to put a Mk2 forarm on a Mk1 action (or mk1 on a mk2 as well).

A shortened barrel sure isn't good for a proper refurb job, but getting a spare barrel and having a smith change it may not really be cheaper than getting another sporterized rifle with ontact barrel!

    Lou
