    M1903 front sight base.

I went to the gun show here in Allentown yesterday and picked up a used front sight base for my Rem. M1903 restoration project. On the bottom of the base it is marked with an m or w. Is this correct for my gun or is it for a Spring. or R.I.A. gun or doesen't it matter. The other 2 I looked at were unmarked. Thanks, Mike.

The mark you describe is a subinspection mark of Rock Island Arsenal (not Remington).

    Hope this helps.
