    For those interested in history.

Here are a couple of pictures my (deceased) father-in-law shot of friends during an assignment to Alaska in 1950.

Nothing really important, but a glimpse of Issue Carbines at the time.

Jim, I think that is a type I band. The spring comes out to the leading edge of the band and not to a hole in the band.

The barrel in the second picture is either a very light gray phosphate or one of the unfinished barrels that have been seen once in awhile. Don't ask me how an unfinished barrel got on a Carbine but I have seen one and heard of others.

I had the same thought about the lack of bayonet lugs too..............interesting.

I also thought the first one was an M1A1icon, but it isn't. Its a zipper pull on his jacket.

Don't see a type 2 band, in either pic..........

The guy in the second pic definitely needs a "winter trigger attachmet".

You are right Bill. I enlarged it and saw I was wrong on the band.

Winter trigger hell, where are the ear muffs.
