    Pics of my No 5.

    I finally brought my No 5 Jungle Carbine home. It's in need of a proper cleaning and I'm in the market for an upper hand guard. I made note of any markings I could find and thought I'd post them here. The rifle is a BSA Manufacture and was made in 45. It appears to be all matching except for the missing upper hand guard and the magazine. Here are some of the pictures of the rifle and it's markings.

    Matching bolt....

    This is right behind the trigger guard...

    Matching stock in front of the barrel band....

    This is on the top of the barrel just behind the nose cap. What are these marks? I know 303 must refer to the caliber.

    Base of the barrel.....

    It looks like there's a 7 on the left side of the butt stock....

    The marks you ask about are UKicon civilian proof marks.

    BNP = Birmingham Nitro Proof
    18.5 Tons per square inch is the proof pressure.
    303 is indeed the calibre
    2.222" is the cartridge overall length.

    Giving the old girl a cleaning today I had a close look at the non matching magazine. It's marked differently than the magazines in my No 4 and No 1.

    Check these out....
