Telescope Mk IV or GS question

Greetings All

A question for Peter and everyone else. Just picked up a beat up 1916 TT&H Ltd Mk IV Signaling scope that has Indian ownership marks on it (a first for me). Too bad the leather has shrunk and the stitching has failed. Anyways the question. The scope has been modified with two asteriks, I cannot find anywhere what modification it is. Any clues out there??

I don't think it refers to an upgrade, as in Mk1* or Mk1** as in the pistol so far as I know from our experience with them. As a matter of interest, these telescopes are/were still in our system until a few years ago and you could still find them in the sniper CES. There was a modification in the 60's/70's to repair/replace broken OG lenses by using the Scout Reg scope OG lens cell assembly

BDL knows of a pair of good leatherworkers who can probably re-cover the tube and eye shade.
