original vs repro boxes

Has anybody published anything regarding original vs repro boxes (in a book or on-line)? I haven't been able to find anything. I am trying to learn a bit more about the various manufacturers and types of shipping boxes used. I know there are a lot of fakes/repros out there, so I'd like to see some of each (primarily so that I know what's original). For example, I recently saw a shipping box that had "01-00040" on it (that was it). I have seen that number sequence used as a stock code number on other boxes (Remington Rand and Ithaca) to indicate the pistol, and was wondering if someone was just clever, or if that was in fact another variation of an original shipping box. Jenkins' book on Military match pistols has some info and pictures of boxes for the NM pistols shipped in the 50s and 60s...

The boxes in Bill Jenkins book are not factory boxes. They are the boxes used to ship pistols sold through the DCM in the 1960 time period.

I don't know if anyone has done any formal study on all the different boxes for forty fives. And if they have, I have never seen any real, pictoral, step by step, factual evidence anywhere. It would definately be a good thing to have and be very useful because we all know that there are more fake boxes floating around than real ones.
