Oiler Value

I have two M1 Carbine oilers. Should I keep them with their respective rifles? I don't use them. Would they enhance the resale of their respective carbines if I keep them in the stock?

Anyhows, one is marked SI (or is it IS) and the other IU. What is a fair value for each oiler if I was to offer them for sale?

I have the two sitting in an end table drawer occupying space and taking up weight. I don't have a use for them. Oh yes, I have an Inland carbine and an Underwood carbine.

What is my best economic advantage, selling the oilers or keeping them with the carbines?

Keep the IS oiler with your Inland and the IU with your Underwood as they kind of go together.

Some areas of the country have different price ranges. In my area:

The IS oiler in near new condition is worth between $10-15

The IU oiler used, depending on condition, is worth $25-40

I would keep the IU even if you do not have an Underwood gun. You could trade it for one that goes with your gun. The IS is common, goes with any gun.

During basic training at Fort Bragg circa 1968, my ex-brother-in-law referred to his weapon as a GUN. The DI didn't like his comment so made him run around the grounds using "hands on" to differentiate a weapon from a gun shouting one is for shooting and one is for fun. I never forgot that! Isn't that sexual harassment on the part of the DI?????? He coulda got the army into a lot of trouble for that!

Oh yes, the old DI Marine who did those tv stints about the military questions viewers asked: Arlie Ermie? He's one kewl dude. I miss his show. He's a tough dude but toned down when in the presence of his grandson.

R. Lee Ermey is back on TV, hosting a show called "Lock and Load". The first two episodes were on machine guns and artillery: both very interesting and entertaining!
