    M1 sights

I have a question about the originality of my M1icon. I have an early example that went to Englandicon and back, as demonstrated by the B.N.P. and related marks. I first layed eyes on this rifle in about 1976 and have had a hand on it ever since. I understand that MOST of these rifles underwent rebuild at one time or another, but the guns in England were not as prone to this because they were in " war reserve" and not in the U.S. system. I've poured through all the documents and publications available to try to clear up ONE single part that I'm questioning. The windage knob on my rifle. This is short pinion and knurled elevation knob. The windage knob has serations and I see the gas trap models had knurled knobs on both sides. Serial# 328219 from S.A. All drawing numbers match up and the barrel is 8-41 and shiney inside. Can some of you old hands from the U.S. help me on this? Has anyone got a pic to show me?

EED gave you the straight answer. The elevation knob is supposed to be checkered, windage knurled. Get yourself a copy of Scott Duff's "Red Book", pertaining to the WW2 M1icon rifle. Everything you might want to know is contained within.

One of my 4 Britishicon LL M1's is within a few hundred of yours... 100% original and damn near unissued. Came from Scott about 6 years ago.

Thanks boys. I have Scott Duff's books as well as Pyle and Canfield and I've read what seems to be conflicting info. That's why I asked for pics. Dan, the ones you've sent are spot on for my rifle. My wood seems to have a few more dings in it but that's OK. Thank's again.
