    Angry Romanian Dragunov problems

I took the Romanian Dragunov to the range yesterday for a first run. The scope was very out of view so I started killing 8" to 12" rocks on the rear of the 200 yard line while setting the scope. I had a few smokers while shooting that I figured were primer punching by the amount of smoke in the back end of the gun. I couldn't find the brass because the gun the spent brass into the next century. Very shortly afterwards I started getting some mis-fires due to light hits, followed by a dead gun. I stripped it down to find a frozen firing pin, I wasn't totting a small enough punch to do an on the spot repair, so down it stayed, I fired the SAFN-49 a few hundred times and blasted the center out of the target, so all wasn't a waste. When I got it home, I cleaned the gun soup to nuts finding the firing pin still stuck. I ended up re-cutting the resting angle back about 1/2 a degree and re-shaped the rear to allow for peening, when all was said and done I polished the entire mech. to a mirror finish. It is know working very well and hopefully next week I can get you guys a range report. The only thing for sure it shoots under 8" at 200 yards, but, I think that will change. Oh-yea I was shooting the copper washed stuff with the yellow and gray bands on it-SDH

Hmm... is it possible old dried grese was preventing the FP from fully engaging?

Very possible, but, there was a lot of peening on the strike end of the FP. I re-profiled it to allow for striking, polished the angle on the head of the FP and broke any edge that may add to interference. I hope this does it, I'd really like to see what this stamped monster can produce, MT-SDH

Well, worst case, you can return it for a replacement, right?

    romainion dragunov

This Romainion Dargunov, would that be the FPK ? If so I had one. It loved the hansen priviy ammo, but it did shoot the brass into the next quarter section. If you need a manual PM me its the only thing I have left. The manual itself was written by the US militar it is a translation of the original.

They are a fun gun but accuracy really degrades after 300metres even with homeloads

Hum, could be fun, I need to get a firm grip on the sight graduations, puzzles. Claven2 was kind enough to give me an explanation, but, I now need to draw a mental picture when I apply the sight. I have to admit it killed rocks nicely at around 225 yards! Now if I can just get it shooting long enough to center it on paper-SDH
