Should I buy this Remington Rand?

I got offered a what I believe is a 1943 Remington Rand today. It's an early one, serial number 995,334. It is 100% correct with a type 2 slide, HS barrel, keyes grips, etc.

I was offered it for $900 today. The only problem being there isn't much finish left at all. It's the original finish. But, it's mostly worn off except in the protected areas. I would say 10-15% finish left.

A year ago I wouldn't have hestitated to buy it. As refinished mix-masters would almost go that high in my area. But it seems prices have dropped some as I seen some stuff sell pretty cheap.

I know it being an earlier Remington Rand, it would make it worth just a hair more, but what do you guys think? An all correct original early 43 Rand with little finish remaining worth $900?

    Thanks guys!

My personal opinion would be "no" -- the price is too high with just
10% finish left even if it is a 1943 model. I would rather wait and get
a better example any pay the $2K+ going price. But -- that's just my
taste. Rem-Rands are also not exactly rare -- they produced more of
those than any other 1911 A1. Better examples are out there.

Why don't you offer him $750 and see what he says. As Mike said, they did make a lot of RRs but not really that many Type II. It's worth a try. Any GI shooter is worth that much. IMO
