    Reboring

Among my collection of '17 stuff are a de-eared Winchester sporter. This one has a barrel ruined by too deep a dovetail cut into the barrel at mid length.

I also have several Johnson replacement '17 2 groove barrels that are not very good after years of apparent legion use--they just won't clean up or stay clean.

Does anyone do "reboring" anymore? If so, about what does it cost?

I would like to have one of the Johnson barrels rebored to .35 Whelen for a reasonable price and use the sporter. I assume the WWII Johnson barrels are a good quality piece.

The reasons are this way the headspace is unchanged, after careful necking and the stock, which is fancy grade, can be reused.

    Any references would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I think "Guns and Ammo" had a M98 rebored a year back. Cost a pile of money and still ended up with the Mauser stepped barrel. Looked odd. Labor is the issue.
