Last weekend I finally shot my high number Rock Island that I posted about a while back. I guess I never really took a good look at the rear sights before, and I had never shot a 1903 before, but when it was time to shoot it I noticed that's a nifty little complicated sight! So many sight notches and apertures, and I had never really noticed that you can adjust for windage on it. I know, you're thinking "well duh". Like I said I'm still learning. Are there any other rifles (military or otherwise) with windage adjustable slider/ladder rear sights?
Anyhow, was using Greek HXP, and my first shots I tried using the non-adjusting battle sight at 50 yards and of course didn't see any hits. Later at home I looked it up online and found that the battle sight is for about 400 yds. Next I tried the lowest notch, and then the peep. I started getting the hang of it by then, but I cut myself off (probably prematurely) since I also brought a Swiss1911 and Finnish
M39 to shoot, and I wanted to pace myself. My shoulder was really hurting by the end but that's probably mostly from the M39. My 1903 has the grenade boot on it so it was actually pretty comfy.
Next time shooting I will give the 1903 more attention. Ok, done with my rambling
