    POD rock island

I wasnt going to buy this rock because I was not sure of the finish, the bore and dark staining around the butt area. When I went back and made the dealer scrub the bore and then the rifling looked ok, also I tried some cleaner on the stock and the staining turned out to be years of crude that accumulated under a slipon recoil pad. The dealer swears that the reciver is original rust blue however I still am not convenced as I have nothing to compare it to. however he came down to 700 and tax so I took a chance.besides I assume that the rifle went to the PI in the 20s then got replaced by the M1icon in the late 30s what I am curious if it came back to states it would have WW11rebuild stamps on it. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...d/IMG_0192.jpgAttachment 6872

Rather early low number. Finish appears right. What is barrel date?

Nice rifle, Rick! I'm still looking for @ WWI barreled receiver for my POD stock.

    I believe you did o.k.

The receiver does indeed appear to have an old rust blue finish on it. It's probably an old arsenal re-blue. I've seen them before. The receiver was probably rust-blued about the time the new barrel was installed. The original Rock Island finish was oil-quenched casehardening.

Your rifle looks good! You did well. Thanks for sharing!
