Stamp on the 1911A1 Remington Rand frame

I am looking into buying a WWII Remington Rand 1911A1 and I keep seeing this mark on the right side of the frame buy the grip that looks live crossed cannons in a circle. What does this mean? I am trying to study up on them before I buy one. Thanks for any help.

That is the ordnance dept, final inspection mark that was adopted in October of 1942. All RR pistols will have the crossed cannon mark

BIGBLOCK.....If you are going to start collecting .45 Pistols, you should get a "Collectors Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols" by Charles Clawson. If you go to www.coolgunsite.com you can order a book and a great CD for $60.00

I have a few new 1911 Colts and I want just 1 WWII 1911A1 to have. I can't afford a collection like I want and stay married.

I am in no hurry to get one. I have passed on 2 already because of price. They wanted too much for the overly rusted guns for the money. One was priced at $2100 for a ruff piece. I understand they will not be perfect but at least nice for that price.

You should be able to find a pretty nice RR in the $1200-$1400 range.
