    1903A3 Stock Marking

My friend just purchased a Remington 1903A3. It is in great condition. Barrel date is 5-43. The stock has clean cartouches with FJA & Crossed Cannons, RA, OG & SS. The SS is unknown to us (no, we know it is not the GrermanSS). The SS marking is clear and stamped into the butt of the rifle as the rebuild stamping marks are. They are not cut with a knife or other implement.

Any idea as to the origin of the SS marking? The rifle barrel does have an import stamp. Can this be a clue?

    Thanks.

SSAA was for San Antonio Arsenal. It could be the AA is faint or the stamp was not applied proprely thus leaving off the AA.

"SS" is not a San Antonio Arsenal inspection stamp.
