    Mr. R. S. Chavin

On June 25, 1934, I wrote your office asking for information concerning Springfield rifles. In your reply, you asked for additional information which I am enclosing.

The rifle I am interested in is a 1903 model. It is chambered for both .303 and .306 [sic] shells.

    Yours truly

Hmmm. I wonder if the guy actually tried shooting a .303 in his Springfield? He definitely needed some help!!

    Rick,

I suspect he meant 30-03 and 30-06. The 30-03 was fairly common in those days.

That's all I could find in the file relative to that particular correspondent. I suppose a copy of his second letter was forwarded to the appropriate office in the Ordnance Dept. who obliged with the requested material.

Just wait, Jim. I've got one ESPECIALLY FOR YOU!

Good point - based on the way he stated 30-06 as "306" you may be right.
