    1903a4 on gundbroker

Asking on a couple of different boards about this 1903a3 sniper, even though its a 1903a4 sniper. Got responses from "many things wrong with it, maybe worth $1200-", to "it came rock island auctions and CMPicon would sell it for $5500-". Thats a BIG difference. After looking at a couple gun sales sites, it does seem under priced. Do we have any opinions here? wolf

i answered this on the other forum. but for giggle sakes
    fact.
scope, rings, and covers are replacements.
rest of the rifle looks right, nice early stock, handcut bolt cut, and handguard ring.
    opinion.
over priced about 1,000.00 for a rifle with a replacement scope.

This the same rifle that was the subject of my posting on the double struck inspection stamp a couple of days ago.

I put some comments on Gunboards. (Nov 2).

The barrel seems original for the s/n. The stock looks good but is probably not orignal to the action having joined up during the Bencia rebuild.

Since the small metal parts are not parked It suggests the rebuild was done pretty early or the rifle may have been restored.

A rifle of that vintage should have a large bow guard but again a small bow unit could have been installed during the rebuild.

As for the scopes. On an A4 a "correct" scope is about as good as it gets. How correct the 330 Scope - M.8 is remains debateable. The only definitive statement I have ever seen in print is in Clark Campbell's 2003 edition. This rifle appears to be too late to have had a 330C or 330 Scope - M.8. as original equipment. By then M73B1's would have been in the "pipeline", such as it was.

    Regards,

    Jim

The rings should be parkerized and the windage screw should be case hardened as should the scope ring screws. There are always 330's for sale online.
