    Finished a refurb on a No4 Mk1 Lee Enfield

    Hi everyone,

    Well I haven't refurbed a No4 in a while, so I thought it'd be just about time.

The barrel, receiver and bolt are number-matching - but that's after an "FTR" at Fazakerley (unfortunately not dated on the receiver). Got them as a sporterized rifle with no magazine. Good shape 5-groove barrel.

The forend for this one has the "Ishy" screw... oh well I don't see it as a sore spot. It does have nice waves of different shades in the middle, which is neat. Bedding was not too challenging. Besides removing a few minor contact spots between the barrel and the forend, I had to slightly shim at the rear, under the rearmost part of the receiver, to get the right upward pressure at the muzzle.

I didn't do the best job possible on matching the color of the rear handguard with the other parts, I'm not satisfied with this; I will do better next time!

    Wood was finished with BLOicon.

Can't wait to see how it shoots...

    Lou

    Lou,
That's a nice looking rifle...it looks slightly reddish wood on my monitor, is that right?.

    Hi Peter,

It's kind of reddish, maybe just a hint, but it's more brown.

Drop by if you're around Ottawa at some point

It seems that you have a grey colored mag? in that case mine is too. Is that color original? replacement mag? of just refinished?

Mix-and-match, that's likely a mag that was phosphated maybe? This one's been gone for a while now...
