    M1 Garand with "A" stamp

I have a WWII M1icon Garand that was rebuilt after the war and it has a stock without any markings except an "A" on the underside front portion of the pistol grip. Does anyone know what this means?

    Thanks,
    Jarrod

old timers on here always said those where Marine/Navy rebuild stamps, also was said to be on Navy match rifles.hard to believe there is'nt more info on this because 2 of my M1s are stamped with a "A". both came from the CMPicon a IHC & a WRA. HTH Semper Fi

FWIW the only one I've seen was on a papered O-65 Navy Trophy Rifle...only other stamp on it was a non-serif P inn a circle.
