Question about late RIA configurations

What is the likelyhood of Rock Island 1903s (400,000 SN and higher) having RIA bolts? It would seem that the ones assembled by Springfield with late 1920s SA barrels would have SA bolts of the same period. Would this be a correct assumption, or would Rock Island have shipped the RIA bolts (and other parts) along with the receivers to Springfield?

Hmmmm. I thinl I just answered my questions by reading ViShooters notes on bolts. I need to memorize that information. Thanks Vi.

Vi Shooter lists RIA bolts marked NS on the top of the handle and bottom of the handle. My question is are the letters individually stamped or stamped as a set like the N.S. stampings on later NS bolts?

RIA bolts are NOT marked "NS" on top or bottom of the handle. RIA bolts are marked "NS" on top or bottom of the bolt Safety Lug.

The "NS" letters are die stamped as a pair and are very close together, almost touching. No periods.

What are you doing, Robert? Going through your parts bin? You pose a good question, and one for which I don't have an answer. If I had to guess, I would think the bolts came already stamped, which means individual stamps. I await the correct answer, as my guesses have a pernicious habit of being out in left field.

Hello Jim. How are things in the swamp. I've been thinning my collection, and checking to see which pieces are more correct. According to the information in Vi Shooters web site (as I read it), bolts used in RIA receivers assembled by Springfield were marked NS on top of the handle or on the bottom of the handle or RIO on the bottom of the handle. These bolts came from Rock Island with the receivers.

I have been thinking of doing the same thing. I have a stack of stocks that someone may need. Most of them are so-so, but serviceable none the less.

The swamp is very wet this time of year. I got 5 inches of rain in one day, and it rained for a week non-stop. My barn cats are growing webbed paws. I drove my truck across my front yard to unload my recovered Harley, and I left 6" ruts. Whoever stole my Harley never drove it. Same mileage as when it left, and found 372 miles from here 5 months later in a Mexican neighborhood in Christiansburg, Va. It belongs to the insurance company now. Sad.
