    Handguard Repair

I have a two rivet handguard, and the retainer plate has separated from the two rivets. Any tips on how best to reattach it?

    rivets

I repaired one once with a small steel rivet I got at the hardware store in the "Hillman?" drawers. I only had to replace one. I took the handguard in and matched it up. They had brass and steel.

This is exactly why they changed to four rivets.

Many times you can reinstall the metal clip by putting the clip over the rivit ends and holding a flat round punch on the head use a pointed punch and hammer on the inside to rebrad the rivit ends. use only a little inpact with the hammer because too much will crack the wood from the rivit to the end of the handguard. I have done this several times and only cracked the wood the first time. Four hands will make it go easier but it can be done with two.
