    Ishapore 2A1 Feed Problems

I have a new magazine from Numrich, because someone borrowed the original magazine and did not return it.

The first round is hard to chamber and the last round (#10) jams when you try to feed it into the chamber. I do not have a charger for this rifle.

I hope I have used the correct terminology for the Lee Enfield.

Does anyone have an idea on how to solve the problem?

Hate to say it, but original mags are about the only way to go. Your other recourse is to gently bend the feed lips for best function- its trial and error if you've never done it before. Unfortunately, aftermarket mags often won't retain feedlip geometry as they are thinner gage unhardened material, plus the feed lips themselves may differ from original. Also, springs are often poorly set up and/or tensioned. You get the drift, yes?

Get your old one back or find another original. Sorry, hope I'm wrong!

jmore: I wish I could get the original back. The bloke who borrowed it left it in his jungle carbine when he sold it. When he was asked to return it he said he had returned it. Nevertheless, lesson learned.

I will try and adjust the feed lips. The first one chambers roughly, then the next eight are slick as glass, then # ten won't feed at all.

    Thanks, John

    I didn't think a 2A magazine would fit a No 5? Maybe a faked up one?

Maybe he had a faked up jungle carbine. It used a .308" cartridge that is why he borrowed it.

Problem solved. I loaded it down, up, down, up, and it feeds fine. I am assuming that any standard 308 charger clip will work with the Ishy?

Stupidly enough, I've never really tried different chargers. Might try some when I get home.

Glad you got it running! Hopefully, it'll stay servicable.

Don’t feel bad a lot of people have been gotten by “DuDuD”

JBS, its a 7.62x51! Here its "-----". Besides, in my rifles that have good mags I can charger load 'em with the rims in ANY position, including reversed overlap, and they will still end up in the mag the right way. DUDUD is really not required! Spent a couple hours messing with this myth, and it doesn't hold water! It would, however, keep the troops occupied w/ yet another mindless task.

Maverick, I tried multiple chargers, including 2, 4, and 6 "side protrusion" bump types of various origins- no dramas. Did not try 6.5 Swede ones though, they tend to be wider.

Please help - I am struggling with the concept of DUDUD for rimless cartridges ( ala 7.62 x 51)
I fully understand (and use) DUDUD for 303 rimmed cartridges but surely as the rim on 7.62 is the same diameter as the case its impossible to DUDUD, UDUDU or any other permutation - In the charger clip do they not lie in line, with the body of the cases touching and parallel ?
