    No 42 Mk I

I know I should send a photo but I still am having trouble getting close enough to read serial numbers. I Have a No 42 Mk I H.B.M.C NO. 648. I have had it for about 12 years now and have not needed it. I guess it would be better to sell it to someone who knows what it is and can use it before my wife sells it for 50 cents at a yard sale. I would rather sell it to someone here than some dumb *** (sorry Baddger) on Ebay. All the glass looks fine, the tube is a bit rusty and pitted on the outside, The graticule has a single vertical wire. Any ideas on a fair price? Thanks to all
    Rob
P.S. The scope and I are just north of Detroit.

It's worth about $75-$100 for the parts that can be used to repair the No.32 scope providing it's in good shape. At least that's what I paid for one a few years ago that was donated to the cause.

I think that's what I paid for one at Sarco during a road trip a few years back.

Swallow your pride and put it on 'that' auction site. Let them see its condition and to be honest, nobody wants it for its good looks. They want it as insurance to keep their No32 running until the end of this century........ and beyond. I've broken, probably 100 or so for their spare parts value. In fact, anyone that's got an ex Indian Army telescope with perfect lenses very probably had the lenses from a donor No42 or 53.

Just as an aside to clarify its value. I had a quote from a lens grinder to make me 10 sets of Mk1 ocular lenses, identical to those you have in your No42 telescope. £55 a set. So you know it's worth at least that........................
