Inland in family 47 years

Im new to the site, and would like to show my newly acquired carbine. My dad got 2 of these from NRA in 1963 for $25.00 bucks. My older brother had it and I swapped him for some pistols. I shot my first deer with ball ammo from this rifle when I was 12 yrs old (46 years ago), and now I have it for my grandson who is in love with it. I have been cleaning on it and studying the history of carbines for a couple of weeks now. I guess at some time, years back my dad put a scope on it hiding the serial number. Barrel is Inland dated 12-44, has crossed cannons on each side of stock, and IO in sling cavity. Gonna go out with my grandson tomorrow and shoot some rounds through it. Gun show coming up on 23rd in Houston, so we will be getting a sling and oiler, and a buttstock mag holder. everything looks to be inland numbers. This gun has not been shot in 20yrs or so. I did test fire 3 rounds last week at 50 yrds and shot good. Spent the last week cleaning up the stock and reoiling it with BLO.

Hey Rustship, welcome, you will like this forum. Does the scope mount on your carbine slide into the dove tail of the original rear sight?.....Frank

Nice! Can't get much better . You have to love these old unmolested guns.
Scope mount looks like dovetail mount so rear site could be reinstalled, if you wanted to. GK

Rustship, glad to here that it wasn't drilled on to mount the scope!! You have a very nice carbine and I am sure your grandson will cherish it. My grandson hunted with a rock-ola this year and one of my grandaughters has dibbs on an Inland for next season. I'm big on them understanding the history of my collection. Take your grandson to the show and have a good time, and let us know how it went.....Frank

Love the wood! I like to practice with iron sights as well. Lets you kinda get the field of view SO MANY GIs had.

Looks like your carbine went through updates at the Springfield Armory. Probably where the barrel band and safety were replaced. Also guessing that an adjustable rear sight was installed at the same time. Look for stake marks around the dovetail.

I believe you are right, you must have seen the SA cartouche on the stock picture, and the SA on the Hammer.
