    'TR' butt stock marking

    I have seen the marking S51 on a few TR butt stocks. What is this? It is located on the bottom just back of the wrist.

    Although S51 isn't specifically in the listing below, here's a link that will help with official markings.

    It's a site provided by Amatikuluicon with some good information to bookmark for the future.

    Lee Enfield Rifle Markings (click here)

    S51 = Indicates sniper conversion by Holland & Holland

    Check the 1944 Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle (Mfg by BSA Shirley - M47c) displayed in the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library.

    You'll see it on the butt of that rifle in the photo montage.....
