Fellow Club and brotherhood members !

I am posting this as over the years I have seen guys asking about Carbines that have been owned by a certain person. I have just been sent this bad pic by a seller down here. Don't think I will buy it. He states late Inland, I am not of that view, got a Type 2 rear sight so he may not be able to read all of serial number ? I'm thinking maybe a 6 digit. What month/year do you think ? He doesn't know much about them so I can't get the detailed info I want.

Now the interesting thing is, (for guys that this may be a clue for), on the metal hand guard lip, which you cannot see as it is covered by that front receiver ring, is etched, Ted HOMER, and a three digit number 8??, Maybe 804. Just thought it maybe a real person and a unit number ? Your opinions appreciated. Mike. N.Z.

Buy the gun not the story...I doubt you would ever be able to track down ownership.

    Hi Mike,
    Just a thought here..........
But many of our GI'S were big baseball fans.
Could it be possible that a fan of the Boston Red Sox Ted Williams was keeping track of Ted's stats?
In 41 and 42 he had his best stats. Batting average of .406 in 1941. Then joined the navy. He served in both WWII and Korea.

Maybe one of his many fans?

    Here's more info about him,
Ted Williams - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ted Williams Statistics and History - Baseball-Reference.com

    Anything is possible..........

    Cheers,
    Charlie

That marking has 0 cash value. If I'm reading you right it's on the hand guard retaining tab and not on the action. In that case it really does not detract from the carbine's value but does not add to it either.
