Enfield buttplate questions

Two questions for those who know.

1) Would a 1944 British No 4 Mk I T BSA sniper rifle have a Zanac buttplate or a brass one?
2) Would the Zanac buttplate on a 41 Long Branch be LB marked or no?

In the real world.....
HOWEVER .... you are dealing with Lee Enfields and most, if not all, have had some degree of refurbishment

while the ZAMAK was used on some-some were mazak , just depended where you hailed from
and whether it was a longbranch or a savage

Most of the BSA '44s I've seen are zamak or what ever that potmetal is.

In general (despite rare exceptions):

1) No, it would have left the factory with a gunmetal (looks like brass) buttplate.

2) Not necessarily. Most were, but Longbranch also sometimes used Ilco marked ones supplied by that subcontractor, which is normally most associated with Savage. It's also possible that the very earliest LB pattern Mk1(no *) rifles in 1941 had brass buttplates before quickly switching to zamac, but I've never seen one in person.

3) It's Zamac, not Zanac.

Zamac it is and thanks. I've bought this C Broad Arrow marked plate from a member for my 41 to replace the rather beat up one that was on it.

This weekend I installed this brand new LB Long buttstock on my 41, and then put on the plate...looks pretty good. The other buttstock had been sanded pretty good to the point that the plate actually extended past the wood.
