    Nickeled Colt

Picked this up yesterday. A Colt New Service 1917. Has been nickeled & Stag or Jigged Bone handles added. I usually stay away from anything that has been nickeled but I liked this one. The grips are what appealed to me. When I removed them to check everything out I found they were backed with paper that appears to be an order form of some sort. I believe this was done around or right after WWII. Because of the writing on the paper. It list Civilian dress, Mackinaw coat & other items.Does anyone recognize this ? Just trying to determine when this refinish took place because I was told it belonged to an Officer around that time.

    Paper looks like........

........a laundry list. A space for marking quantity, followed by printed description of item(s) followed by price each to launder. Laundry gets a copy, customer gets a copy, everyone knows what was left at laundry and what the bill will be when picked up.

I too don't care for (modern) nickel guns unless in 100% finish. Antiques I will look at even if finish is flaking or worn/missing.

Show us some more pics of your revolver. The small pic you posted looks good. There is nothing wrong with a non-original plated gun if it was done properly and looks good. I can see why you liked those stag grips, they look like they belong. SOME stag grips are so awful ugly that a pistol should sell better with no grips at all rather than hang the ugly ones on it! Old Jay Scott "fake" pearl plastic grips have probably caused me to not look at many a fine pistol.

    FWIW,

    Emri
