    Question "Total" Speculation - Krag # 463779

I saw this rifle at a "Hide-Away" Part Time Gunshop today. Serial # 463770.
Chopped stock (Varnished & no Stamps) - No blue'ing - Pitting on barrel an Reciever - Bolt appears correct and functional. - Buttplate and upper band appears to be 03 Springfield (Maybe?).
L/S Plate - TG - and Magazine appear original and all are near "bright" but without pitting.
Bore/Barrel appears to be "Toast" but "IF" I buy the rifle I won't know for sure. 24" with the original front sight and..the rear sight apears undisturbed; no marks etc. showing removal etc. My readings indicate rear sights were "swapped" around so the rear sight may not be correct but I'm not educated enough to verify what the rear sight is.

Anyway the guy is considering $250.00 for it...Any thoughts?

    Mike,

$250 should get you a good shooter, even in today's market. I would look around some more.

    good luck!

In my opinion, if the bore is poor, the poor thing has become a parts donor. Years ago, an 03a3 barrel could be bought for peanuts, rethreaded and installed. Barrels were cheap and labor was cheap.
I agree with jon, wait for a better one, there are still plenty of "sporters" out there and with brass getting harder to obtain no doubt a few will be hitting the market .. my ha-penny
