I studied the gas attacks from WWI years ago, and found it was an ineffective weapon for the most part, but horrible for the few who were casualties.
Sometimes the people who launched he attacks were victims themselves by changing wind patterns.

I thought the Germans developed it, but found later that Franceicon tried it first (with no real effect)

Germanyicon used it quite a bit, violating the Hague treaty, but only as a response to France's first use of poison gas.

Below is a link to a 'Wikipedia' page, but it's very close to being correct.

Poison gas in World War I - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I always noticed that many German soldiers carried gas mask containers in WWII

    Hi Harlan,

the Germans were afraid of gas attacks ( Hitlers thoughts) and they had to carry them but most time you could find anything in the gasmask box but no gasmask. We had the old ones a time and we foundt out that a bootle of beer wrapped in a wet towel would make an soldier happy.

    Regards

You are 100% correct Gunner, and of course I didn't mean anything toward you or any present Germans. (I'm Germanicon by only two generations before me, as you know)

Hitler was gassed during the first World War and he made all all the soldiers carry gas masks under his orders throughout WWII.

The German 'grunts' carried all kind of things in their gas mask containers in WWII, but seldom carried gas masks.

I like the picture of the french Gasmask. Wondering how they can see anything thru this little lenses while running. It has the shape of an supermarket plastic bag and seems not to fit right.
