Need help date coding a Carbine.

    Hey guys,

A buddy of mine at work has a Carbine that was his Grandfathers. Could someone help me date code it? The serial number is 3877169.

Any help would be appreciated. I looked on-line and couldn't find anything.

    Thanks !

Using the references I have (mainly Duff), its an IBM gues-ti-mated somewhere around Jan to Mar 1944. There are people around who can probably give you a better date estimate, but that should at least get you started. Pictures and a list of the markings on parts will yield you more info from knowledgeable people on this board.

    Hope that helps...

A34, welcome to the forum. I am restoring 3,884,956 only 7,787 newer than the one of your buddy's. IBM was producing about 40,000 per mo. I have been told mine was around the end of Feb '44, right in the middle of T.R.'S guess-t-mate. Look up the thread on IBM slides 2-12-10. If you can post some pictures that would be great. If it has not been redone, I would like to see the shade of park, and witch parts might be blued. HTH.....Frank
