Multiple punch marks

Could these be Rockwell hardness test marks? Appear a B scale mark. C is much smaller. But the close position to the lug makes me wonder. That is my only input. I notice quite a few such tests on bolt housing and such I have for Carbine. One test on the lug and one on the body where supposed to be soft.

Another question - When did it become standard to put these punch marks on receivers (test hardness)?

couple maybe over the years,,said have been done when the rifle was rebarreled, or after a rebuild,
each time a barrel was installed, a punch mark was made.
that doesnt wash, as iv seen a couple receivers that have never had a bolt fitted, or a barrel screwed in with a punch mark..
im guessing..
that if it was a rebarrel or major repair at one place,,ship, field ect, they got a punch,,
seems all the ones that have more then one punch have some of the same features,
iv also seen a 1917 Remington Enfield with the same punch marks, it had the original barrel still in it.

Yeah, this one still has the original rod bayonet barrel, '05. But, as JB helped me figure out, it was converted to 1905 sights and .30-'06 at the same time. Maybe it picked up a punch or two then? Just thought it was odd to have original barrel with three punches. And aren't those punches usually in the crease?
