1903 Rem. recoil lug

I first bought a Rem. 1903 barreled action, drilled and tapped, to turn into a sporter. Then I bought an old bishop sporter stock for it.

Thats when I realized the recoil lug was not like other '03 recoil lugs.

So, I assume the change was part of the measures taken to speed production, which resulted in the 1903A3.

Is there a serial # range that this particular change took place? My Rem. is in the 3.15 mil range.[/QUOTE][/IMG]

Yes it was. Remington started making changes to speed production very early on. John Beard or Rick the Librarian might have a SN range, but an exact number doesn't exist. Some changes are seen on an earlier numbered reciever and that change might be missing from a later numbered reciever. It all depends on WHEN that particular reciever was numbered. The recievers weren't made and numbered at the same time.

Makes sense. I thought there might be a large overlap, like other parts.

Wish I had a bunch of Rem. receivers to examine. Maybe one day.

early Remington 03,s have the swept recoil lug just like the early SA and RIA,s
about mid production, that started to change..i think the changed it 2 times.
i dont have the serial number ranges, just observations on rifles iv owned and worked on..
id bet that one is at the end of production.
