    What's the next Surplus Rifle?

Just curious what might be the next surplus release. Seems we are near the end of the Swissicon K31's, on the downside of the SKS's. The Mosin Nagants are still pretty hot. What's still out there? Or are we at the bottom of the barrel?

I suspect, the next batch, may be a bunch of Chinese stuff. The Chicom Nagant variations, Chinese mausers, Chinese Arisakas in 8x57 to name a few. They also still have a ton of stuff left over from WWII. Like the Russians, the Chinese don't throw anything away either.
There is still a lot of third world stuff out there as well. Korea is about to release a flood of Korean War vintage stuff as well.

Any of the Chinese or Korean stuff any good?

Would that include captured Japaneseicon Ariskas as well?

Canadaicon is awash with Russianicon SKS rifles, and a prominent dealer is bragging up another batch of SKSs coming from Africa someplace. The other flavour of the day are new Chinese M14s, in a different configuration with each batch. Ya Who's high school shop class is getting better, but Hang Fyr hasn't figured out the metalurgy to make the back sights any better than the first imports.

I've seen a few of the Chinese Nagants, they look to be well made. The Arisakas I've seen, in 8x57 look exactly like the Japaneseicon Arisakas but with Chinese markings. The Chinese mausers I've seen have been beaten to death.

To each their own but I fail to see the attraction of all the East Bloc and Chinese guns being sold. Very crude and low quality. Remember when you could buy a 1908 Mauser mail order in mint condition for $135?

True enough, but some of the Russianicon SKS's with all milled construction are comparatively well made next to other semi-auto carbines we see - certainly better made than an AK.

They are also rather fun and inexpensive to shoot.

As for Chinese M14icon's, well, the receivers are really nice and sometimes the barrels are too. The rest? Well, if you're lucky, you have a prohibited (in Canadaicon) M14 you can strip and build the original gun back onto the good chinese receiver - then it still can be used. If not, the Chinese parts need a lot of fiddling to work best. Too bad some entrepreneur hasn't bought a bunch of chinese receivers and a bunch of offshore M14's and started building "mostly GI" rifles that could be imported in proper nick to begin with

In terms of what's coming next for surplus, I'd guess lots of Chinese stuff. The Chinese have finally decided to sell off their VST supplies of SKS's in many variants and flavors. I think we'd see mosins too except that the margins would be so low to bring them in.

The Czechs are also changing small arms, so we might see some VZ57's in 6.62x39?

As for mixed African stuff - difficult to predict. Could be anything come out of those countries.
