    My First Garand

Hello...I am an avid collector and just got my first Garandicon...It is a Springfiled Armory ser#1,613,xxx....I have field stripped to check for accuaracy of parts etc but am puzzled by the stock.

The stock is "old" fits the action and barrel snuggly but has no armor stamps or Cartouches anywhere. In researching the Garand I have read that if the rifle was reconditioned by a base armorer that these stocks were not stamped.

Can you all shed some light for a new guy?

    Thanks

Other possibilities are that it is an old aftermarket stock or someone sanded the nicks out a while ago and took the cartouches with them.

When the Army overhauled a rifle, sanding the stock was part of the process. I've seen many USGI stocks with no or extremely faint stampings

Thanks...is there anyway to tell if it is "after market" or not? How does the lack of stock stamp/cartouches affect collectability?

So....any interior markings like the internal serial #'s on a Mauser?

Does lack of cartouche affect collectability much?

If you were to buy a nice stock that is correct for your gun, expect to pay $300 to $600. That has to affect the value.
