    K 98 Barrel Mark

I picked up a few years ago a BYF 43 K98icon...I have completely dissambled and every number on the metal and wood parts matches.....so Here's my question...I have searched the forum extensively and can't find what the meaning of a number stamped on the barrel means.

On the barrel just in front of the receiver is the number 42D24...it is stamped so you can read it head on and disappears into the forend part of the stock..

Can anyone shed light as to what this number means? Is it a caliber Number?

everything else is in tact including the rubber barrel cap and original sling..

    Help Please

It's probably the factory code for the barrel.

42 = Mauser AG Oberndorf which matches BYF. The D24 is probably some sort of inspector id.

I'm no expert but the same question has come up by two other individuals, myself being one, in the last week.

My rifle shows the factory code in a small shield with the other numbers beneath it and to the side.

I posted photos on page 2 of the Russianicon Capture K98icon thread. Check there and see if your numbers are in the same location.

yes, that's just a manufacturers' and inspectors mark.

Called the "Barrel Band". Manufacturer and date barrel was made.
