Broken rear sight on M1 Garand

Bought rifle but as the seller was boxing it he dropped on ceramic floor and damaged the rear sight. He is willing to refund all money however, is there any way this can be fixed. He told me the peep sight was bent and none of the adjusters will move. I suppose the gears are shot.
Can this be fixed? Should I? Or leave well enough alone and move on to look for a different rifle?
    Thanks
    John

The rear sight is made up of 5 components. You should be able to replace the entire sight for $50. to $75. (late model sights) If just the aperature is damaged, you can replace it for around $10. If the pinion is damaged add $35.
Check to see if the ears protecting the rear sight are damaged. If so, take the money.

Even the "ears"/sight housing are replaceable, so, unless the receiver itself was damaged, just reduce the cost by the replacement cost of an entire sight assembly. Hopefully, it wasn't a flush nut or short pinion lock bar rear!

jmoore is correct. I was refering to the "ears" on the receiver that have the serations for the windage and elevation.
