I seem to remember seeing a large batch of L1A1 rifles marked on the trigger mech housings WATT and this indicated RAF station Wattisham in Norfolk. There were also hundreds of No4's with the same(?) markings being back-loaded to Ordnance with the markings on the butt, but were WATT ATC. indicating Air cadets based at or near there.

Could this be the answer. I know that the ATC had late Mk2 rifles while the Army didn't

Just and Idea but could it be, Wattisham Army Cadet Force. WATT A.C.F.

There HQ is at RAF Wattisham so it would make sence to keep them in the Stn Armoury, along side the RAF A.T.C. Weapons. Could it be that the RAF gave the ACF there own rifles, hence Mk2?

Your photo-taking abilities are dreadful. We got a better shot of your foot than we did the rifle.
Wattisham is one of several air force bases that have (1992) been handed to the army, who now use it for helicopters.

A little harsh perhaps but it is easier to supply a information about the sock than the rifle.
