Colt SAA Frame finish

On 1st generation Colt SAA,I see some frames that have case hardened finish and some that appear blued finish. Were both done? Is there a date when one or the other was started? THANKS

The standard factory finish for all generations of the Colt Single Action Army (SAA) is Color case Hardening. NOW, the finish that could be special ordered is a different story. Some SSA's returned to the factory for repair were blued all over. But the general rule is unless it was nickel plated the finish should be Color Case Hardening.
