    barrel markings

OK, so my 1911 barrel has the H and P on top and a 5 underneath. According to the pics from this site USGI M1911 and 1911 A1 Barrels they mean WWI military contract.

The thing that throws me is that there is also a partial G beside the 5 underneath. According to the site the G means WWII. What does the G stamp mean? Was it used again during WWII? My knowledge on 1911's is zilch, so any help is appreciated.

G is for Government... and you're OK with it stamped in conjunction with the 5on the belly. What would be more interesting is....... the H P configuration ???? Are they vertical, or horizontally positioned ??????

I started a thread on this barrel before, just no pics. Finish is not original, of course.

Your barrel would be correct in a Colt 1911 between serial number 110,000 and 425,000. So what is the serial number of the pistol?

No pistol. No barrel anymore, either. Sold it. Found it in a box of parts I bought. Despite non-original finish, it went for just under $100. I was surprised. Are they hard to come by?

I was just looking for info on the G. Thanks guys.
