    Cleaning Advice

I am very thourgh when I clean my rifles, yesterday I was able to pick up some surplus yugoslav 8mm ammo. I know it is corrosive, the guy at the gun store mentioned using windx???????? Can some one give me some advice on the best way to clean my MOD 98k after I shoot the corrosive ammo?

    Thanks.

Hot (soapy) water will dissolve the potassium chloride salt that's responsible for the rust. Windex is OK- it's soapy water that's fancy. After the water, clean as you would normally- oil, then inspect and repeat for up to three days- check again in a week just to prevent surprises.

The more water the better! A custom funnel might make things easier if you really want to flush it out, but I just use patches.

Yes indeed, hot soapy water. Cheap and correct. Then finish the job with Hoppe's No.9. Good luck.

I well use Windex at the range when finished shooting. Then I follow up with a hot water cleaning at home with in 24 hrs.

    +1.

you'll be surprised how dirty a clean looking bore can actually be until you've used the hot water method.
