Help with I.D. on rifle

Hey Guys!!
I was looking for help with the I.D. of my rifle. It looks like I have all the right markings on the metal parts. But there is no "S51" on the stock. There are no scope serial #s on the top of the stock. The wood is in great condition, smooth and almost blemish free( not sure if it is original). I have the "TR" mark and on the side where the "1" in Mk1 is looks like the "T" Mark was stamped over the "1". The "S" mark is there. Also the rear sight has the "SM" on the side and "SM"(very small) on the adjusting knob. It says "England on top of gun with a armourer's mark below it. The serial number matches the side of the gun. The side of the gun says " M47 1943 AQ0453 TR". There was not a cheek rest on the gun when I received it. I did buy a real cheek peice and screws for the gun but was not sure if it would help it or hurt the value of the gun. I bought it as an investment not a shooter(but it does shoot).

At first sight, it looks like a BSA No4T that has been fitted with a 'new' butt to me.

It is pretty common for the buttstcks to be replaced, especially considering that a '43 rifle probably saw much more use the the '44 and '45 rifles.

Do you have the original front scope pad? I think that's the much larger drama than the furniture!

Each pad was finish machined to the exact dimension required AFTER it was screwed and soldered (sweated) to the reciever body. NOT an interchangable part!

I have the rear pad ....the guy I bought it from says he has it but has to locate it..it might be behind the couch next to the sock he has been looking for......nit sure why they would be off the gun to begin with..

There'll be several good and valid reasons for the pad to be off the gun but if you can't find it and need to fit another in the future, come back to the forum and as because there is a technical engineering was of doing it......

The originals were raised head 4BA. Additionally the front pad is sweated on with soft solder as the screws are tightened.

M47 is the BSA manufacturer code - so your receiver is definitely BSA

0001 to 9999 is a BSA serial number assigned block
