Question No 5 Mk 1 question

Can anyone help me identify the markings on my No 5 mk 1
    ( ROF ) F manufactured in 12/44 i believe.
On the for end there is a number ( 923 or 823 )and what appears to be a mark next to it. In the picture it appears as a dent.
On the but, the numbed, 237, and BASF.
    Greatly appreciated.

Pics too large, have to work on uploading them, may take a while

R.O.F.(F) = Royal Ordnance Factory, Fazakerley

BASF will undoubtably be identified by Peter Laidlericon if he reads this,

I believe BAOR is Britishicon Army of the Rhine, so BASF could be British Army of S..... F.....
